9 January 2025 – The mood in the Chinese stainless steel market has improved, with some media already describing it as bullish. Demand for steel in China and the United States is expected to rise. And in Germany, industrial production is picking up much more strongly than analysts had previously expected.
Stainless steel: positive sentiment in the Chinese market
The mood for stainless steel in China has improved significantly in recent days and has already been described as optimistic by some media. Nickel prices on the SHFE have also improved by around 2.3% since the beginning of January. Nickel contracts on the LME commodities exchange even rose by more than 5.5% in the same period.
Rising demand for steel
Demand for Chinese steel has recently continued to rise and steel makers have already adjusted their production and revised it upwards. Analysts expect increased demand for steel from the US automotive industry in 2025, which should also have a positive impact on demand for stainless steel there.
Industrial production in Germany increases significantly more than expected
Industrial production in Germany improved significantly in November compared to the previous month, increasing by 1.5% according to the latest publications from the Federal Statistical Office. Analysts had expected only 0.5%.
The FDP‘s exit from the failed ‘Ampel’ coalition government and the resulting end to the left-green federal government appears to have already had a positive effect on the German economy.
