CBAM Remains a Bureaucratic Monster: SMEs Are Expected to Pay for Brussels’ Design Flaws – Press Release

Riegel/Brussels, 10 June 2026 – The Gerber Group warns of the consequences of the planned EU implementing act on the deduction of carbon prices paid in third countries under CBAM. What is officially intended to prevent double burdens threatens, in practice, to do exactly the opposite: companies will have to surrender CBAM certificates even where carbon costs have already been incurred in the country of origin – because Brussels ties relief to conditions that many companies simply cannot meet in practice.

CBAM Chaos, Steel Tariffs Coming: SMEs Pay for Brussels’ Design Flaws – Press Release

Riegel/Brussels, 30 April 2026 – Eighteen weeks after entering into force, the EU’s carbon border adjustment mechanism CBAM is still not operational. Gerber Group calls for immediate suspension of the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) – Press Release

Riegel, 23 September 2025 – The Gerber Group strongly warns against the introduction of the EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) on 1 January 2026. In three official statements to the European Commission, the company criticizes the serious gaps in methodology and the absence of benchmark and default values necessary for the legally secure calculation of CBAM costs. It calls for an immediate suspension, or at least a postponement of the start by 12 to 24 months.

Steel tariffs are driving up food prices Anyone who still doubts this should take a close look right now

Steel tariffs are driving up food prices. Anyone who still doubts this should take a close look right now.

In the United States, the higher Section 232 tariffs on steel and aluminium have been in force for more than a year. The consequences are now being felt on supermarket shelves: companies in the food industry that depend on imported tinplate for the production of cans are being hit hard. Tinplate has not been produced in sufficient quantities in the United States for years – because it is more attractive for domestic steel producers to manufacture products with higher margins.
