Although the pace of the month-on-month decline has slowed compared to the change from November to December 2020, German steel inventories are shockingly empty and a result of the ongoing shortage of materials in the market.

Customers increasingly turning to traders
German steel traders have had a busy start to the year as purchasers turn to distribution rather than mills as delivery times from European producers remain unusually long at 12 weeks or more as steel shortages continue.
However, in the case of flat steel, material in stock is also becoming scarce, leaving purchasers desperate, while import options remain tight.
