November 23, 2023 – The election in the Netherlands once again shows the dissatisfaction with the inexplicable decisions from Brussels. For many EU citizens, the EU Commission seems increasingly undemocratic and despotic and far removed from the reality of life outside Brussels. And in the United States, fuel prices fall sharply at Thanksgiving.

Election in the Netherlands: Outlook for European elections in 2024?
There is no question that the European Union has seen better political times. In recent years in particular, it has become increasingly clear that many decisions made by the European Commission or the Parliament in faraway Brussels can no longer be credibly communicated to European citizens and are meeting with ever greater resistance.
Dissatisfaction and disenchantment in the EU member states
The parliamentary elections in the Netherlands, in which the national-conservative Partij voor de Vrijheid (Party for Freedom) under the leadership of Geert Wilders is expected to have won more than 37 of the 150 seats or 25% of the total vote, make the dissatisfaction and disenchantment with the European Union more than clear.
Commission simply makes many people angry
Frans Timmermans, the former EU Commissioner and current lead candidate of a Dutch left-wing alliance, is not innocent of the rise of extreme anti-EU parties. With the EU Green Deal, which also includes the CO2 border adjustment tax CBAM, he wanted to leave himself a legacy shortly before his resignation as EU Commissioner. But once again he has ensured that more and more citizens and, in particular, European companies are looking to Brussels with enormous anger in their stomachs.
Just bureaucratic madness, chaos and the expansion of power?
The irresponsible and economically damaging chaos that the Commission is increasingly fueling with its mania for self-preservation, expansion of power and bureaucratic madness can no longer be explained to the people of the EU. Some of the Commission’s bodies now look as if the completely undemocratic and barely controllable EU grandees have degenerated into despots, controlled and manipulated by the domestic steel oligarchs.
Will the 2024 European elections be a slap in the face for the Commission?
The election in the Netherlands shows where the European elections in 2024 are heading. A clear shift towards extreme parties that would prefer to abolish Europe right away. And why? Because the people in the EU simply no longer want to put up with the complacent, arbitrary, sometimes illegal and unaccountable actions of some EU institutions. Europe is not the problem. The undemocratic structures, especially in the ivory towers of the Commission, are what is turning citizens against Brussels.
USA: Lower fuel prices for Thanksgiving
Petrol prices in the USA are falling and today could give drivers the cheapest Thanksgiving day to fill up since 2020. In that year, the Covid-19 pandemic depressed demand and the price of gasoline fell to USD 2.11 per gallon. It has currently been falling for eight weeks due to a seasonal slowdown in demand. The price of US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) oil fell into a bear market last week, temporarily down more than 20 percent from its September peak.
According to the American Automobile Association (AAA), the national average price for a gallon of regular gasoline was USD 3.31 on Monday – 25 cents cheaper than a month ago and 36 cents lower than in the same period in 2022.
