31 October 2024 – More and more companies in the European Union are calling for an end to the bureaucratic and regulatory madness. Small and medium-sized companies in particular are suffering under the dictates of Brussels’ ivory tower.
Call: Abolish EU bureaucracy and regulatory madness
The excessive bureaucracy and regulatory madness of the European Commission in Brussels in recent years has led to massive criticism from all levels of the European economy in recent months. More and more voices are calling for an end to the dictates from the ivory tower in Brussels and for an economic policy that is orientated towards reality.
Business expects an end to Brussels’ addiction to overregulation
Now ORGALIM, the association of the European tech industry, has also called on the EU heads of state and government to take decisive action against the declining competitiveness in Europe.
A recent publication by the association states, among other things:
‘This has to start with tackling the stifling regulatory burden weighing down our industries. Between 2019 and 2024, the EU passed 13,000 pieces of legislation, many of which are needlessly prescriptive, unclear and incoherent and are holding back growth and productivity in our industries. By comparison, the US adopted 3,500 pieces of legislation at federal level in the same period.’

Inappropriately short transition periods for new regulations
One of the association’s central demands is aimed at inappropriately short transition periods for new regulations, which seem to have become the new norm in Europe since CBAM and the regulations on data, cyber resilience and AI.
CBAM: economic damage in the billions
The hasty, purely politically motivated and ill-considered introduction of the EU market protection measure CBAM in particular is likely to have already caused overall economic damage totalling several billion euros in the EU. Swift and unbureaucratic action on the part of Brussels and the member states in favour of small and medium-sized enterprises is urgently needed here.
