Aluminum Sheet: US DOC launches circumvention investigation
The US Department of Commerce (DOC) has launched a company-specific circumvention investigation into imports of common alloy aluminum sheet (CAAS) from South Korea via China at the request of the Aluminum Association Common Alloy Aluminum Sheet Trade Enforcement Working Group and its members. According to the working group, the companies concerned would circumvent the existing anti-dumping and countervailing duties of nearly 100% combined.
Which products are affected?
The merchandise covered by the orders is aluminum common alloy sheet (common alloy sheet), which is a flat-rolled aluminum product having a thickness of 6.3 mm or less, but greater than 0.2 mm, in coils or cut-to-length, regardless of width.
Asian commodity prices rising again
Commodity prices in Asia continued their positive trend today (Wednesday). SHFE nickel futures gained about 1.4%, and silicone futures on the Guangzhou Futures Exchange (GFEX) gained about 1.24%.
Both metals, nickel and silicone, are used in stainless steel production and increase corrosion protection. Silicone also significantly reduces the loss of chromium during the melting of stainless steel in the EAF.
In addition, prices for HRC (+0.39%), stainless steel (+0.81%), coke (+1.71%) and coking coal (+3.05%) rose again today on the Asian commodity exchanges.
