Aluminum market with 600,000 tons deficit in 2025

JP Morgan sees a supply deficit for aluminum of more than 600,000 metric tons in 2025. JP Morgan cited the limited global production capacities, particularly in China, as the reason for this. Chinese producers had already produced around 44 million tons of the important light weight metal in 2024 and were thus operating just below the maximum capacity limit.

A possible expansion of production capacity in other regions, such as the United States and Europe, is currently not expected.

Nickel prices continue to rise

Asian nickel prices continued their upward trend on Friday. Nickel contracts on the SHFE rose by up to 1.3%. The nickel price on the European commodity exchange LME was more than USD 16.300 per ton at the start of trading.

Prices for Indonesian nickel ore rose by up to 1.9%, depending on the nickel content. Nickel pig iron rose by between 0.31 and 0.85%, depending on the region.

Asian spot market prices for stainless steel rose by up to 0.75% in the 300 series. Stainless steel scrap improved by more than 1.4%.
